How to Make Money Traveling: Our Main Source of Income

(by Lezlie)

I never set out to be an Entrepreneur. I grew up believing the in the traditional “American Dream” – that I should work hard in school, go to college, and then find a single career path to follow and progress through until retirement.

Unfortunately, life doesn’t always work out exactly as planned.

I’ll be the first to admit the I made a number of mistakes in my early adulthood which led me to struggle through 4 years of college as a Music Education major and eventually drop out just shy of a degree.

At that point I took on the service industry full-time waiting tables for about a year and a half. From there, I landed my first “corporate” job as a Customer Service Rep, which I was able to parlay into a position in radio advertising sales. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I wanted to get back into a job where I was helping people again.

That was when I made the move that led me to where I am today. I got a job in college Career Services, having very little knowledge of the industry other than the job description. I spent the next 2.5 years providing career advice and assistance to students and graduates. I helped them to write resumes, search and apply for jobs, and prepare for interviews. I gained a great deal of skills, learned a lot about the industry, and during this time even went back to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a focus on entrepreneurship and organizational leadership. Unfortunately, my last place of employment was sold to a company who closed my campus.

After such sudden and unexpected news, I went into a mild panic, but then realized that I could take my resume writing and interview coaching skills and go into business for myself. 4 years later, I feel like that was the right decision.

As a resume writer and career consultant, I offer personalized assistance with resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn profiles, interview coaching, and career planning to clients across all career fields and levels of experience.

I was fortunate to be connected early on with a resume writer who has been in business for herself for 17 years. She eagerly offered her mentorship and has been instrumental in helping grow our business.

Andy joined me at Resume Lezlie (then Professional Progressions) in July of 2016. He manages marketing and advertising, social media, research, administration, and he contributes to Resume & LinkedIn services and our blog.

Our long-term goal is to incorporate our travels into the business, which we’ve already started doing a bit. The idea is to interview numerous of authorities across a variety of professional fields, recruiting, and higher education, to learn about what we can focus on to help job applicants meet the needs of employers.

We plan to make this information available via ResumeLezlie.com, and hope to compile enough information to create something big and truly valuable to job seekers and hiring professionals alike.
